Every one of us bears a little of the responsibility here because we have helped create these “monsters”. We prop up the world of sports and its heroes as if both are invincible and can do no wrong, slap the athletes on the wrist when they misbehave, and then quickly go back to supporting both as if nothing had happened. Granted I’m not denying the good that has also come from the ‘world of professional sports and its participants’. However, it does little to no good, in my opinion, when we continue to send at best these mixed messages to our kids today. So we produce world class athletes who are made to feel they can do no wrong and we continually confuse our kids who idolize them at the same time. Not enough is being done to counter that, if you ask me.
